UML vs UNH Hockey Game
Today I went to the UMass Lowell vs. UNH Hockey Game. I got there about a half-hour before the game started. I found my friend, sat down, and started looking around. There was a Sal’s pizza near where I entered. The lines were full. There was also a pretzel station, a fried dough station, and a couple of beer stations. I didn't concern myself with those. Soon after I sat down, a large remote control blimp started flying around. I heard that the blimp occasionally drops free tickets to future events. I wasn't lucky, though.
Then, when the game was about to start, the loudspeakers started playing the following song:
The screens encouraged us to make some noise and cheer for the team as they came on to the rink. I found that it was very cheesy, yet funny. Someone was also tooting a vuvuzela behind me.
Then, the special guest for the night was introduced. He is a Stanley Cup winner with the Boston Bruins, currently playing left wing. He is Milan Lucic. There was an opportunity to get an autograph, but I wanted to watch the current game. I heard that people who got an autograph had to wait through the whole first period in line to get an autograph.
All through the game the UML Pep Band was playing songs. Since I was in Marching Band and Pep Band in high school, some of the songs they played were familiar to me, like “Gimme Some Lovin’”, or “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love” by the Blues Brothers. Below is a sample of “Gimme Some Lovin’”, which we affectionately call “GSL”
Though we ended up losing the game, I still had fun. I chanted all the chants that the audience was doing, cheered when everyone else was cheering and booed when everyone else booed.
